About the Artist: Alphonse Mucha

On July 24, 1860, in Ivančice, Moravia, our world was gifted a talented artist. His name was Alphonse Mucha. His father's name was Ondřej, and he was a court usher. His mother's name was Amálie, and she was a miller's daughter. The young child would not grow up in an empty house. He would have five other siblings whose names begin with the letter "A." He was a talented young man who pursued his passion for the arts. 

His first significant benefactor in his artistic career was Count Khuen-Belasi. He was amazed by his raw creative talent and would hire him to paint murals for Emmahof Castle. The Count would pay the tuition for Alphonse to get fine art education in Munich. The artist would then further his art education by studying in Paris.

His breakthrough in the art world was designing posters for the actress Sarah Bernhardt. The artist created his first poster for Sarah Bernhardt for the theatre production of Gismonda. His notoriety and unique Art Nouveau style landed him many contracts for designing advertising posters for large brands. He had a very successful career as an artist who impacted the world with his unique artistic style. He would later die in July of 1939.
